Toronto Urban Film Festival

Created by Haley Ma, Wei Ming Yuan, Wei Dong Yuan Camera and edit: Haley Ma Actors/Dancers: Wei Ming Yuan, Wei Dong Yuan Resources and Input: Kenneth Vinyaratn www.HALEYMA.Com www.UnityCharity.com After researching the urban culture of bboying (or breaking) from its hip hop roots and conversations with the Yuan brothers, I decided to produce a short film with the aim of highlighting certain points of the art and showing how far the brothers have come in practicing their dance. I also want to express a Toronto flavour, to show that our city has a rising hip hop and breaking scene. I want the video to represent Toronto well on an international level. Aesthetically speaking the video will be a creative take on dance, concentrating more on the form, the movement, the beauty of breaking, and communicating that using a higher level of cinematography with much emphasis on lighting, composition, location, among other technicalities to create a short reel of beautiful footage. Coming from my background of 4+ years in practicing photography, fine art knowledge and experience I believe I will be able to create something truly beautiful and worthy of being called art in itself, not simply a mundane video whose purpose is simply to document a subject.
